between 2020-2023, i attempted to build a large-scale software platform for collective improvisation in supercollider.
the scope of the project was beyond my reach at the time, but i hope to be able to continue working on it under better circumstances.
lessons learned from this undertaking continue to guide my approach to more singular supercollider projects.
i applied with my music generator project to a phd position at the art university in reykjavik in 2021.
below are graphs of the software architecture, and a couple of proposed implementation projects.
abstract overview of the software
schematic overview of the software architecture
modular instrument design
communication between the musical abstraction layer and the audio output layer
instrument time loop
example configuration update model in json notation
diana butucariu’s sketches of proposed applications for the platform
a painter making music by painting. a computer vision algorithm transforms colors, shapes and vectors into musical data.
a public transit hub is equipped with hidden musical triggers. sound plays in speakers throughout the hall. curious travellers improvise a music piece together on their way to work.
